Where Freedom Rides – My Story at Rancho Buch

A heartfelt story from a passionate rider about unforgettable adventures, connection with nature, and the feeling of home at Rancho Buch in Borovets.

Hello, my name is Plamen Tanev, and for more than 15 years I have been passionate about horse riding and horses.

By fate and coincidence, I met Marti, his family, and the ranch. Rancho Buch in Borovets quickly became a place I feel as home—a place where I feel happy and, above all, warmly welcomed by the hosts.

I have ridden multiple times through the forests and meadows around the ranch. I have shared conversations by the fire and enjoyed delicious food. The overall atmosphere of the place is truly wonderful—it gives you a deep sense of freedom.

I have taken part in two three-day horseback tours organized by Marti. Everything during these journeys was more than perfect. Food, water, rest, and even comfortable accommodations for the nights were all thoughtfully provided.

Marti’s horses are exceptionally well cared for—you can see it for yourself when you visit. You can truly feel the love they receive. They even have inhalers to help them recover faster and stay in excellent condition for riding.

During these tours, we explored many areas around Borovets and Samokov. We encountered wild animals, sang from the heart, and galloped with the wind.

On one occasion, we even saw a massive bear just 40–50 meters away. Fortunately, it was busy eating berries and showed no interest in the horses or riders. The adrenaline in moments like that stays with you for a lifetime.

Along the routes, you may also encounter snakes, wild boars, rabbits, deer—even wolves. It’s important to note that Marti always ensures our safety and adjusts the route when necessary.

In another case, we came across fresh bear tracks, which led us to sing loudly for nearly an hour—knowing that bears tend to avoid human voices. Well, since I’m writing this, it clearly worked.

I have dozens of stories I could share, but I’ll leave it to you to create your own.

One thing is certain—Rancho Buch is a place I will continue to visit, riding Kebranto—my favorite horse.

And you?

With respect,
Plamen Tanev – a satisfied rider
